What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib (also called a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep safely next to you. It is a safe method of co-sleeping, which does not increase the risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with your newborn baby.
These cots have a side which can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially useful for mums recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable or portable so you can use them for travel and as an interim solution for babies that aren't yet ready to move into a crib that is large enough.
Choose a crib that has a mattress that is breathable, as well as a protective cover that will keep your baby safe from stains. You may also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like an infant blanket or a teether.
If you're looking for a long-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that allow you to turn them into a cot, or a toddler bed at the time of need. This will prolong their life and make the transition a lot easier. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be turned into a bassinet. Other models can be used with either an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise model. This is a great option for families that intend to travel frequently or change between bedrooms in the evening. Be aware of the dimensions of your room to ensure you be able to fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs have risers which can be used to create an incline for babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Known for their high-quality baby products, English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs that are bedside with the Roomie Glide. The co-sleeper was created to allow parents to bond and sleep side-by-side with their children without sharing one bed. It's loaded with features that help make bonding between parent and baby safe, easy, and fun.
One of the main features is a smooth, rocking motion that can be activated with the push of the button. This gentle rhythm can soothe your baby into sleep without disrupting their normal sleep patterns. This is perfect for older toddlers or babies who have difficulty settling down. It can also help with digestive problems like colic and reflux.
The crib can also be fixed to the side of the bed using a strap and clip attachment. This makes it extremely stable and secure, allowing you to enjoy a great night's sleep without worrying about your little one falling off into the middle of the room. The cocoon's rounded shape is complemented by softly padding on the sides and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows for airflow while keeping your baby safe.
The included mattress is comfortable and firm. It is covered in a washable material. The aluminum frame is lightweight, making the crib very lightweight and easy to set up. The four lockable wheels are rubber-covered to ensure that the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. It is easy to clean using cloths that wipe clean and is simple to tote in a travel bag making it perfect for extended stays away from home.

The airflow mattresses are deluxe and provide a comfortable sleeping surface, while ventilation panels help keep your baby cool. There are also 6 different height settings and an incline option to help with congestion and reflux.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it easier to clean than bedside cribs which can create a mess to clean. Additionally, it comes with a top bar that can be easily adjusted for nighttime feeds without needing to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna found that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleeping space for her infant. She liked that it didn't move like other models, so she didn't wake up at night while trying to soothe her baby to feed. She also liked the fact that the side could be lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to carry the baby out for feedings at night.
The CoZee comes in oak or charcoal and is a chic option for any bedroom. It looks more like a designer piece than some of the other cribs we've tried, which appear rather utilitarian. It's also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carry bag so you can carry it with you on holiday or when you move your home. The only things you'll require are a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. bedside crib or cot and illustrations are simple to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to help parents feel more connected to their baby while they sleep. It adjusts up and down and moves through three slide positions to fit beside the bed of the parent, or in the corner of the room, so that baby is always within arm's reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to quickly see your baby. You can also put away any extra pajamas or items in the large storage basket beneath.
The Iora is a smaller bedside crib that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. Our mum testers found it easy to move from room to room and believed that it was a good size for a small bedside cot, and not too big or small. The large storage basket is great to store bedding and nappies.
This is an excellent choice for parents who want to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but do not want to share their beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back issues. Our mum testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their child while in the Iora and that it came with an optional reflux incline that helped alleviate gas.
Our mothers also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines, which are to place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are easily available. It's not as light as other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier for you to move around, consider a different option.
